STRATIGRAFICA COLLECTION: Through the Layers of Time

Realized in collaboration with Team Work Italy ,The Stratigrafica collection transforms functional elements into narrative art, offering a line of furniture that tells Earth’s geological story. Inspired by soil core samples, the collection includes 1930s-inspired dressing tables, consoles, and mirrors with integrated shelving, all characterized by a semicircular structure optically completed by amber mirrors in a trompe l’oeil effect.

“I wanted to create pieces that weren’t just functional, but that carried a deeper narrative, a connection to the history of the Earth itself,” explains Elena Pelosi. “Each element of the Stratigrafica collection represents a fragment of geological time crystallized in the form of furniture.”

The collection’s color palette ranges from warm terracotta tones to lime white and neutral beige, developed in three distinct chromatic palettes that reflect the natural diversity of the earth while creating a harmonious dialogue between different material shades. Each color variant will be produced in a limited edition of 20 pieces, emphasizing the exclusivity of the collection.

Complementing the furniture line, the designer has created a series of ceramic vessels through her Made in Fornace brand that further explore the concept of stratification. These objects, made with recycled materials rich in diverse aggregates, present irregular and authentic textures. When placed on mirrored surfaces, the vessels create the illusion of infinite core samples that seem to penetrate the supporting plane, generating a fascinating play of depth and reflections.

Cocciopesto: Tradition Reinterpreted

The Stratigrafica collection rediscovers and enhances cocciopesto, an ancient building material with a millennial history, traditionally used for waterproof flooring and wall coverings. This material, composed of terracotta fragments mixed with mortar based on air lime and pozzolana, is reinterpreted in a contemporary key, transforming into sophisticated furniture elements.

The production of contemporary cocciopesto used in the collection follows an environmentally respectful artisanal process: it is manually pigmented with natural oxides, using at least two shades of the same tone. During the drying process, the color varies based on the oxidation of the material, influenced by environmental conditions of temperature and humidity. This approach avoids high-energy firing, significantly reducing both greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption.

A distinctive characteristic of cocciopesto is its uniqueness: the chromatic variation between batches is an intrinsic quality of the material that enhances the craftsmanship and peculiarity of each piece, even in series production. Each element of the Stratigrafica collection thus becomes a unique and unrepeatable work.
